RCS Heating and Cooling can provide engineering and energy assessment services to identify areas of heat loss and assure you are getting the most energy efficient system possible. Whether it is a heat pump, furnace, boiler, or geothermal system you are looking to install, we can compare and recommend the most energy efficient system for your home. This evaluation will save the homeowner significant money over time.
RCS Heating and Cooling can also offer contractors and builders Manual J and Manual D calculations and assist with system design and layout for your most complicated residential and commercial installations. Manual J ensures the system is properly sized by analyzing factors such as insulation, window efficiency, and local climate, while Manual D helps optimize ductwork for balanced airflow and energy efficiency.
Engineering
The RCS Heating and Cooling team has over 50 year experience in the HVAC field and has the know-how and experience to tackle any job. Engineering HVAC systems for residential homes involves designing efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation solutions using industry-standard methods like Manual J for load calculations and Manual D for duct design. Proper ventilation design also plays a key role in maintaining indoor air quality. Modern systems often incorporate smart thermostats and zoning controls to enhance comfort and reduce energy consumption.
Duct Leakage and Air Infiltration Testing
Controlling the amount of air infiltration into a home and the leakage of ducts into unconditioned spaces is key to having an energy efficient home. Standardized testing methods have been developed to measure the amount of these air leakages. RCS Heating and Cooling provides testing services, whether to simply know the potential savings in energy upgrades prior to work, or to pass a code mandated performance standards after a retrofit/new construction. Our testing technicians are certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) to the infiltration and duct leakage (IDL) testing procedures. We are able to generate comprehensive test reports.
A blower door test is used to measure the infiltration of air into the envelope of a home. In this test, the exterior doors and windows are closed, and a special fan is installed in a doorway is used to evacuate air from the house. The amount of air evacuated corresponds to the amount of air infiltrating holes and other leaking spots in the house.
A duct blast test uses the same principle. Ducts vents and returns are sealed off, and the duct system in pressurized with a fan covering an opening to the duct system. The amount of air blown by the fan represents the duct leakage.
